Strawberry Roll Ups
Homemade fruit roll ups must be some of the easiest snacks to make, but are often replaced with sugary supermarket varieties.
We’ve been guilty of it until this strawberry roll ups recipe caught our attention. It’s free from refined sugar, only uses 3 ingredients and pretty much takes care of itself once you’ve popped it into the oven.
We say grab your blender, kiddo and 10 minutes of your time this weekend so you can together create the tastiest fruity delights you’ve tasted in a long time. All ready for the next busy week to kick off.
Once you’ve spread the puree on a lined baking tray, you and your munchkin can get on with your day while the roll ups take shape in the oven over the next 3-4 hours.
Now it’s a matter of resisting the urge to eat them all at once rather than pack them in your favourite Bear, Cat or Bunny Snackie ready for whatever life throws your way.
This recipe makes 5 homemade roll ups so if you have many hungry beasts to feed, we recommend upping the quantities and using several baking trays at the same time. #genius
Makes 5 roll ups
Ingredients
- 250 g (1 punnet) strawberries
- juice of half a lemon
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
Method
Preheat oven to 75 C and line a baking tray with a silicone mat or parchment paper.
Place strawberries, lemon juice, and maple syrup in a high-speed food processor and blitz until completely smooth.
Transfer the puree to a saucepan and cook, over a medium heat, for about 10 minutes until the mixture is thick and jammy. Stir frequently.
Spread the mixture evenly into a rectangle shape onto lined baking tray. The fruit roll up will lose some of its thickness in the oven as it dehydrates, so make sure that none of the mixture is so thin that you can see through it as you spread.
Cook in the oven for 3-4 hours, until mixture no longer feels sticky, just a bit tacky.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before transferring to a chopping board lined with parchment paper, and cutting into long strips with a pizza cutter. Roll strips up into fruit rollups and enjoy!
